5 Ways To Get Your Website To The Top Of Google
Google and the major search engines use a complex algorithm when determining how your website will get listed. The “magic” formula has too many variables to go into this post, however we will examine what might be considered the top five. I am going to assume that you have done your keyword research and know what words you want to target.
Links:
When it comes to search engine optimization, links are by far the one of the most important factors used in Google’s mathematic equation. Links are considered to be votes of trust in the eyes of Google. The more links you have pointing to your web pages, the more authoritative value Google places on your site. One thing to remember is that you want one of your keywords to be the anchor text of the link.
Keywords in the URL:
If possible, it is always a good idea to have your primary keyword in your website address. Also, try to add a keyword into your sub-pages. This has become less important but it’s still a good practice.
Domain Age:
The age of your website used to be a primary factor however recent changes to Google’s formula has placed lees value on it. Still, there is an argument to be made that the older a domain is, the more value is given to that site
Meta Tags:
The meta tags also had a very important role in recent years. Again, much less value is now placed on the meta tags. The tags are mostly used today to help the web surfer understand what the website is about prior to clicking on the link in the search engine results page. Think of a meta description page as a quick 1 sentence sales pitch. Using meta tags should help with click through rates more than anything else. A good seo company will create compeling calls to action in their descriptions.
Fresh Content:
Much can be said about continuously adding fresh content to your site. If Google sees that you have not made any changes to your site or added anything of value in recent memory, your site will slip through the rankings. It’s always important to add content that your user will find valuable. Using a blog is a great way to add content. You’ll want to create a minimum of four post per month.
